Social Events - For all Members, Family and Friends

Welcome to the Kembla Joggers Social Pages. Running isn’t all about training, sweating and pain. It’s also about having great fun and lots of social occasions with your fellow KJ’s. The following are events and dates (subject to change; see regular web updates) you might like to copy and put on the fridge.

Your Social Team for 2007 is Pia Angelucci, Jared Poppett, Neil Barnett, Stephen Brown, Peter Issa and me, Suzie Weir your Social Secretary. We put in a huge effort to bring you fun and original things to do throughout the year, however we welcome new ideas. If you know of a great restaurant we have not yet been to, feel free to mention it to any member of the Social Team.

Presentation Night

This is the most exciting night of the year. Held at Wests Illawarra on Saturday 27 October 2007, starting at 6pm. Drinks, nibbles and a delicious banquet dinner and yummy desserts kicking of the evening (see web site closer to date for prices). Most of the club awards are announced on the night including the winners of the Club Pointscores, Most Meritorious (Golden Boots), Athlete’s Athlete Award, Club Person of the Year and KJ Medals. Kids are most welcome. The night is topped off with dancing and lots of laughter and chit chat. It’s great to see everybody dressed up and looking a million dollars, very different to a race day!!

Annual Trivia Fundraiser Night

This is always a great night. Again, this event is held at West’s Illawarra on Saturday 27 July 2007 (See web site for prices and start time closer to date). Finger food and pizzas are served and be warned the evening can get very competitive! (All in good fun though) Payment on booking is essential and must be made by Friday 20 July. You can book either as a single or couple and we will slot you into a team or just form your own table of 8 max. The KJ’s monster raffle will also be drawn throughout the evening. The proceeds of this year’s event will support both the KJ’s Athlete Development and West Dapto Cross-Country Park Funds.

KJ Events

Most KJ events are social gatherings in themselves with most runners staying behind after the race to enjoy the free tea/coffee and bickies, or even meet at the old Mt Kembla Pub after the Mt Kembla events. The meals are cheap and delicious and much easier than having to cook when you get home. The ANSW events are also a great social occasion and a great opportunity to get together for a cheap and cheerful meal on the way home.

The Brewery Bash

This KJ summer race held in December starts and finishes at the Five Islands Brewery, situated at the bottom of Crown Street behind The Wollongong Entertainment Centre. This event is followed by drinks and nibbles at the Brewery, which is open to families. A great way to enjoy a lovely summer evening and catch up with everybody before Christmas.

Family Fun Day

This is a great day for the whole family and if you’re a big kid like me you can’t miss this great day. Held at Jamberoo Recreation Park in February. Watch the web site for dates and prices.

Friday Feasts

The 3rd Friday of the month is reserved for this KJ tradition. Always at a family friendly BYO location. Take your taste buds on an exotic journey around the world. Watch the web for announcements on locations and times. The following are the dates for the 2007 Friday Feasts: 19/1, 16/2, 16/3, 20/4, 18/5, 15/6, 20/7, 17/8, 21/9, 19/10, 16/11.

Gold Coast Marathon Weekend

The Gold Coast Airport Marathon incorporates a Half Marathon and 10k events. Held on Sunday 1 July 2007 this is a great opportunity to get away from the cold weather in NSW and enjoy the warm weather of lovely QLD. Why not get together with a group of KJ’s and organise a trip! You don’t need to be a runner to come along we can always use a great cheer squad!

Whew, that’s a hectic social calendar! I hope you enjoy all these social events, the Social team has had a great time planning them. Happy running, and I look forward to a Super Social 2007!
