Special Events

The KJs are involved in a number of special events throughout the year which have become key social as well as competitive occasions. We encourage all members to get involved and enjoy the camaraderie of these events. Here are a few you might like to consider:

Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon

Scheduled for Sunday 20th May, the KJs will be organising a bus for those wishing to compete or cheer on the KJs from the sidelines. The bus leaves very early (usually 4.30am) from Wests Illawarra, Unanderra and returns by mid-afternoon. Following the race you will be free to spend a couple of hours exploring the Rocks Markets or perhaps enjoy a counter lunch in one of the nearby historic Pubs. The cost for the bus is $15 per person and it is essential to make an early booking to secure a seat.

City To Surf

Like it’s companion event, the City to Surf, on Sunday 12th August, is always a most enjoyable social day out. The KJs will be taking two buses with a departure time of 6.30am from Wests Illawarra and picking up through the northern suburbs. Following the great race the KJs will be putting on a monster BBQ on Bondi Beach, which is included in your bus ticket price. You are also free to visit the cake shops, ice-creameries etc along Bondi’s famous Campbell Parade. The bus returns mid-afternoon. Again seats go quick so book your place early. Friends, family and workmates are most welcome to join us. Cost is $25 per person.

The Gong Run

This has offered runners the choice of 2 long runs along Lake Illawarra’s foreshores: 24km or 31km. It is set for Sunday 10th February 2008 – keep your eye on the KJ website for more details.

Cancer Council 24hr Fit For Life Relay

KJ Road Relay (Ray's Relays)

This event has now become a permanent fixture on the KJ Winter calendar and involves club members forming their own teams of four runners. The mix of abilities you can include in the team is up to you as all teams are handicapped in a similar manner to Winter Series events. The relays will be held on Sunday 30th September from Don’s Farm, Avondale Rd, West Dapto from 8am. The first and final changeovers are outside the old Logbridge Farm (now Yallah Tafe). The second leg follows Marshall Mount Rd and finally Calderwood Rd to the second changeover. The third and fourth legs return along the same route. The relay will finish at the same venue where an informal presentation of prizes will take place in addition to the usual refreshments and BBQ brunch. Entry forms will be available on the KJ website later in the year. Enquiries to Ray Wales on 42831148.
