It's just 2 weeks to go until Illawarra’s iconic Australia Day Aquathon.
It's on again and what a top day it will be!
This annual Australia Day 'swim and run' community fitness event has become an Illawarra tradition and is expected to attract around 2,000 participants from all walks of life, from families right through to elite athletes and first timers and is arguably the world's largest Aquathon event.
The atmosphere is simply brilliant as participants take to one of three events:
- Kids Only ‘Aquafun’ of a 200m swim + 2km safe run;(all finishers receive a medal!),
- SHORT AQUA a 400m swim + 3km scenic run – all ages and standards, or
- LONG AQUA for a longer challenge over a 900m swim and 7km coastal run.
Do it solo or team up and enter in one of the many tag team categories. Take in the scenic Wollongong Boat Harbour and spectacular Blue Mile.
Ages start at U10 years and go right up to 60 years and over, with teams including junior, Open (any age mx), masters, corporate and parent and child.
The event has been selected by High Performance Tri as a junior talent identification event with the opportunity to be provided with a 4 year, $20,000 Scholarship to a male or female 14 year+.
The event is one for all ages and abilities and is about fun, participation and we actively encourage participants to ‘AQUATHON for a CAUSE”, sign up and fund raise for charity partner Anglicare or charity of preference. To date over $140,000 has been raised for charities and it’s a perfect way to get fit and help your favourite cause in the process.
With thousands of spectators, a spectacular location, professional services, over 60 award categories and a prize and give away pool well over $15,000 come and see for yourself why it has become an Australia Day tradition for so many.
